.: About ACPC :.

~ WHO WE ARE ~

Access Center for Physical Challenges (ACPC) is a non-profit organization founded in July of 2008 to provide assistance and advocacy to those with disabilities and physical challenges (either temporary or permanent). Through life changing experiences involving disabilities, the founders and board members share a passion and commitment to help and advocate for those with disabilities. This will be done by promoting awareness, partnering with business owners and property managers to create better access in the public parking areas, and providing programs and assistance in the hopes of improving certain aspects of life for the physically challenged.

~ HISTORY ~

The idea and mission for ACPC was born based on what we call the "White Angel" from years ago, in which one of our founders tried to help a group of handicapped patients with transportation issues at a medical facility. After hours of calls, advocacy, and days of follow-up inquiries, it became apparent that one individual could not make this improvement/accomplishment alone. Even though success was not achieved, one very kind older woman confined to a wheelchair was so thankful, and called the founder a 'White Angel' for trying to help. The tearful founder in turn said the woman was the 'White Angel' for being so kind, gentle, and patient during a challenging and helpless time.

Since that time of the 'White Angel', many of us have shared that story, and had a growing passion to help those with daily challenges. Some individuals started to advocate, promoted awareness that many disabled individuals do walk and work, and obtained better and closer access to handicapped parking. These successes were accomplished within the community, which re-enforced and reminded us of the need for such an organization here in New Mexico. (See the link for Success Stories). With friends and loved ones having disabilities, a group of individuals has continued to share their commitment to form this non-profit organization to help others.

That gentle woman in the wheelchair was so touching, is thought about often and was our motivation to create the Access Center for Physical Challenges.
